Coaches of “Tornado” BS improved their skills in the international Euroleauge level basketball coaches clinic in Slovenia

7th – 9th June, coaches of „Tornado“ basketball school  - Šarūnas Zablockis, Modestas Gailiūnas, Aivaras Grigaliūnas and director Dainius Čiuprinskas participated in the international Basketball Coaches’ clinic in Nova Gorica, Slovenia. We are very happy, that school is investing in coaches and is able to delegate them to international clinics. They can share information with their colleagues in Lithuania, after their return.

During the two-day seminar, our school team gained experience by listening lectures of  Rob Fodor (Miami Heat shooting  coach), Neven Spahija (Maccabi Tel Aviv coach in last season, also he has worked with many other top Euroleague teams and had experience in the NBA), Aleksandar Džikić (KK Budućnost coach, having worked with many other top Euroleague teams and had experience in the NBA), Slobodan Pixi Subotić (Lebanon National Team coach who has worked with many other top Euroleague teams) and Pedro Martínez (Gran Canaria team coach who has worked with many other top teams).

"For me it was the first coaches’ clinic abroad," - said coach Modestas Gailiūnas. – I have been looking for an opportunity to attend such a clinic for a long time and I am very happy that this opportunity has finally come. I will give an to describe the clinic. Imagine the feeling of coach who is working with young kids, sitting in the gym with 200 more other coaches listening how to Euroleague level coaches discussing how is better to defense 1 on 2 situation?Feeling is amazing! Only the names of the lecturers say about the level of such an event - Neven Spahija, Aleksander Džikič and Pedro Martinez. The organization of the seminar is also top-level. Everything is thoughtful and fine-tuned. Of course, listening 10 lectures in two days is difficult, but after a little while, you begin to understand the package of knowledge you have received. Both Neven Spahija and Aleksander Džikić remember the work in Lithuania very well. When we introduced ourselves as Lithuanians, they met us very warmly and even shared savory trivia about working in Lithuania. I also liked that after the lectures the coaches ask questions to the lecturers. There is a lively discussion and I miss this in the clinics organized in Lithuania.

Our coach Aivaras Grigaliūnas also came back impressed with the international clinic: “I am very happy to have the opportunity to attend this event. I picked up a lot of new ideas from the most famous coaches of Europe, and found some new technical elements in the lecture of American coach. Would be great to attend such a clinic with such a specialist from foreign countries in Lithuania”.

For the first time in such a clinic been our coach  Šarūnas Zablockis: “It's always good to learn something new and remember something old. Although I knew a lot of things, it was very interesting how these things present different styles of coaches with their own spice. The clinic was very interesting and well organized. It was not necessary for coaches to worry about anything and can only focus on lectures. At the same time, it was a pleasure to meet colleagues from other countries, talk to and discuss the latest trends in basketball. It’s not the last time I attend such a clinic. Many times we have attended such an event organized in Lithuania, but Lithuanians would definitely learn  from the foreign colleagues, how to organize good event.”
