History

“Tornado” Basketball School was founded in Kaunas on August 9, 2002. From the very beginning, our goal has been to develop not only basketball players, but also responsible, courageous and community-minded young people. Every child has the opportunity to grow both on and off the court. Today, more than 1,200 children of different ages train at “Tornado” Basketball School.

The path forward

Lithuanian youth national teams

Players developed for national teams

“Tornado” Basketball School has developed many players who have represented Lithuanian youth national teams at different age levels. Just as importantly, our school’s coaches have also served as head coaches of Lithuanian national youth teams.

EuroLeague youth tournament EuroLeague youth tournament

EuroLeague youth tournaments

Players from “Tornado” Basketball School have repeatedly been invited to take part in EuroLeague youth qualifying tournaments, where athletes from some of Europe’s strongest basketball clubs and academies compete. It is both recognition of the quality of our player development and an opportunity for our most talented players to prove themselves on the international stage.

Tornado Basketball School RKL team

The path to men's basketball

Since 2007, the representative team of “Tornado” Basketball School has competed in the Regional Basketball League (RKL). It is an important part of the school’s development pathway, giving our most talented players an opportunity to take their first steps in men’s basketball.

Each year the team is led by a different coach, usually the specialist who is coaching the U18 team at that time. This model gives our coaches valuable experience in men’s basketball, helps them deepen their tactical knowledge and strengthens their player-development expertise.

Tornado Basketball School partnership Omega-Tauras-LSU

Partnership

Since 2024, “Tornado” Basketball School has been working in partnership with Kauno r. Omega-Tauras-LSU team, which competes in the National Basketball League (NKL). This partnership creates even broader opportunities for our players. Each year, we aim to integrate the most talented athletes from our school into the NKL team, ensuring steady development and a smooth transition to a higher level of basketball.

From a child’s first steps in basketball to Lithuanian youth national teams, the RKL and the NKL, “Tornado” Basketball School aims to create a clear development pathway that allows players to grow, improve and progress to higher levels of the game.
